Sourcing
Pink or Peruvian peppertree is native to the northern regions of Peru, growing wild high in the Andes. The Peruvian peppertree can adapt to various soil types. It has been attempted to be planted in many parts of the world, but it thrives best in warm, sunny climates. The pink peppertree has also been successfully grown in Kenya for decades.
The essential oil extracted from it comes from the small berries (pink peppercorns). Harvesting pink pepper is quite challenging, as the peppertrees can grow up to 15 meters tall. Harvesters usually climb the trees to pick the pink peppercorns or knock them down with a stick, then collect them from the ground. The berries are cleaned of leaves and branches, then crushed before distillation. The entire process takes place within 24 hours to extract the maximum amount of essential oil.
