doTERRA On Guard™ + Echinacea Stick – How Is It Different from On Guard Touch?

One of the unique products in the doTERRA On Guard™ range is the On Guard™ + Echinacea Stick. At first glance, it may seem to serve a similar purpose in everyday use to the well-known On Guard Touch. However, these two products are not simply the same formula in different packaging.

The On Guard + Echinacea Stick has a different base and application method, and in addition to the signature On Guard essential oils, it also contains Echinacea and black elderberry extract.

What's in the On Guard + Echinacea Stick?

The 30 g stick contains the essential oils characteristic of the On Guard blend:

  • Wild Orange
  • Clove
  • Cinnamon
  • Eucalyptus
  • Rosemary

In addition, the formula contains purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) and black elderberry (Sambucus nigra) fruit extract.

The stick's base includes coconut oil, tapioca starch and sunflower seed wax. This gives it its solid yet easy-to-apply texture: there is no need for a roll-on applicator or additional dilution, as the stick can simply be applied directly to the desired area of the skin.

On Guard Touch or On Guard + Echinacea Stick – What's the Difference?

This is one of the most important questions, as the two products can easily be confused.

On Guard Touch is a 10 ml roll-on containing the signature On Guard essential oils diluted in Fractionated Coconut Oil. It is particularly convenient for those who want the classic On Guard aroma in a pre-diluted, easy-to-use roll-on format.

On Guard + Echinacea, on the other hand, is a 30 g solid stick. The format isn't the only difference: in addition to the On Guard essential oils, it also contains Echinacea and black elderberry extract.

Thanks to its coconut oil and wax-based formula, the stick also feels quite different on the skin compared with the liquid Touch.

In short:

On Guard Touch: On Guard essential oil blend + Fractionated Coconut Oil in a 10 ml roll-on.

On Guard + Echinacea Stick: On Guard essential oils + Echinacea + black elderberry extract in a solid coconut oil and wax-based formula, in a 30 g stick.

So, On Guard + Echinacea is not simply a stick version of On Guard Touch.

What Does Echinacea Add to the Formula?

Echinacea purpurea, also known as purple coneflower, is a well-known botanical ingredient with a long history of traditional use.

doTERRA's official product description highlights Echinacea as one of the key ingredients in the stick and associates its topical use with complementing the formula's cleansing properties.

This is significant because Echinacea is not found in the traditional On Guard Touch formula. The On Guard + Echinacea Stick therefore genuinely offers an expanded formula.

The same applies to black elderberry fruit extract, which is another botanical ingredient added to the stick formula.

A Practical Stick Format for Everyday Use

One of the biggest differences is the format itself.

The 30 g stick is easy to use, won't spill and is convenient to take with you. According to doTERRA's recommendations, it can be applied topically to areas including:

  • the soles of the feet,
  • the neck,
  • along the spine,
  • pulse points.

The stick format can be particularly convenient when travelling or as part of an everyday routine, as there is no need for a separate carrier oil or roll-on bottle.

Which One Should You Choose?

This mainly depends on your preferred method of application.

If you like the familiar liquid roll-on format and want the classic On Guard essential oil blend in a pre-diluted version, On Guard Touch may be the natural choice.

If, however, you're looking for a larger solid stick that contains Echinacea and black elderberry extract in addition to the On Guard essential oils, the On Guard + Echinacea Stick offers a more complex formula.

The two products are therefore not simply interchangeable: their different formulas and textures provide a different application experience.

Important Information About Use

The On Guard + Echinacea Stick is for external use only.

According to the manufacturer's instructions, it should not be applied to the face, and contact with the eyes and other sensitive areas should be avoided. It should not be used on children under 1 year of age, and adult supervision is recommended when used by children.

The product also contains a photosensitising citrus essential oil, so sunlight and UV exposure should be avoided after application in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
